Ask (Offer)

Definition: The price at which a dealer, broker or market maker is asking for a security. It is the price you will have to pay to add the quoted security to your holding (open a long position).

Additional Info: Also known as the offer because it represents an offer to sell you the security at the quoted price. The ask is always displayed on the right-hand side of a quote and will be a higher price than the 'bid'. The difference between the bid and the ask will depend on the 'spread'.

Related Terms: Bid - Spread - Long
