FOMC Discount Rate Announcement
Definition: The
Federal Discount Rate is the interest rate charged to commercial
banks on loans they receive from their regional Federal Reserve
Bank. Under normal market conditions decisions on the Discount
Rate will be taken at the same time as the Fed considers the “Federal
Funds Rate” or Interest Rate. However, in times of financial
crisis unscheduled changes can be announced.
Additional
Info: Under normal market conditions the Federal Open
Market Committee will meet eight times per year to vote on where
to set the Interest Rate and Discount Rate.
