Halifax House Price Index
Definition: The
Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) House Price Index is built around
the same principles as the House Price Index. The index measures
the change in the average sale price of homes financed by the Bank,
which is a measure of house price inflation.
Additional
Info: The data is compiled from internal
mortgage lending figures. Due to the fact that Halifax is the UK
largest mortgage lender the data represents a good indication of
the entire market. However, critics maintain that Halifax’s
internal figures can be influenced by sales promotions and may
not be an exact representation of market wide house price inflation.
