NASDAQ
National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ). Originally a computer bulletin system when it was founded in 1971, it was developed into a stock market by the introduction of an automated trading system. This allowed orders to be matched and filled automatically by computers rather than on the trading floor by humans traders.
The NASDAQ lists mainly technology stocks such as EBAY (ebay), GOOG (Google) and AAPL (Apple). In addition to this it also lists the NASDAQ Composite Index (an average for all shares listed) and the NASDAQ 100 (the top 100 shares listed based on market capitalization).
