Definition: The
name given to the official classification of firms into industries
by the UK government. This was used to collect data regarding business
and industry trends.

Info: Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) 1992 identified seventeen
sections, each representing a production classification. These
were then split into subsections, divisions, groups, classes and
subclasses.
