About our free trading strategies and systems
Currency trading is discretionary, that is to say that there are no ‘holy grails’ of trading, no magic indicators and no 100% winning formula. Whether you see yourself as a technical trader, a fundamentalist or a mixture of both, discretion will probably have an influence over rigid strategy rules around 70% of the time.

 

 

Why use a system at all?
If rules alone are pointless without an element of discretion, are strategies needed at all? We believe so, especially for new traders. Rule based systems offer criteria for a trader to based their decisions on and apply discretion to. For inexperienced traders a system gives something to apply price action to when the price action alone seems confusing. For example, a simple moving average (MA) cross over system may show the short term MA crossing above the long term MA, closely followed by an increase in price of 20 pips. Now, on a chart with no indicators this looks like a random move and can seem daunting. Or maybe jobless numbers come out 100k better than expected and price moves higher by 50 pips. Without the knowledge of jobless data this move can seem random. However, price doesn’t move 20 pips every time moving averages cross and jobless data has a unique influence on price action at every release so this is where discretion comes in.
