RSS Feeds
RSS is a method of syndicating web-based content and delivering
it to subscribers via a news aggregator. Traditionally RSS feeds
were used by news providers as a means of syndication for their
content. As new stories are created and added to a feed the news
aggregator reacts to these changes and displays the information
at the convenience of the subscriber.
Today publishers in almost
every Internet sector imaginable create RSS feeds to alert their
subscribers to changes and updates, blog posts and product launches.
The idea is that if you find a site you like and subscribe to
their feeds you will be automatically alerted to updates and
additions made by your favourite sites without having to check
through the site on a regular basis. From the site publisher’s
point of view an RSS feed is an excellent way of promoting new
content to their target audience. And what better audience than
one that has specifically requested to be kept in the loop?
